NEWS RELEASE - AUTUMN 2007

Merlin Network scores 'energy'
first for Scotland

The Merlin Network has achieved an'A' rated window energy rating using the FS70 system from Profile 22 - the first fabricator in Scotland to secure the high performance accreditation.
The Fife-based trade fabricator launched its new range of high performance 'B' and 'C' Energy Rated windows, including an offering of 'C' rated windows as standard at the beginning of this year.

Now after substantial investment, Merlin has added an 'A' rating to its Maestro Symphony fully sculptured range - a unique achievement North of the border.

Mike Bryant, managing director of the Merlin Network, said: "Rising fuel prices plus the rise of the 'green' agenda are making energy performance of increasing importance to consumers and as a consequence, to our customers.

"Scottish homeowners have been quick to recognise the longer term as well as immediate benefits advanced products can deliver and there is a real and growing demand for sustainable but in particular, energy efficient products.

"And as consumers become increasingly conscious of both their carbon footprint and moreover, the size of their heating bills, energy rated products are generating new opportunity within the market place.

"We are supporting our customers in meeting that demand and taking advantage of the opportunities that it presents by delivering an advanced range of 'A', 'B' and 'C' rated windows."

Merlin Network selected Profile 22 as its systems partner in March last year, manufacturing in the FS70 Fully Sculptured System. Featuring clean sculptured lines, the system also boasts high thermal efficiency, achieving a U-value of 1.8Km/M2 with standard low E glass.

Merlin has developed a range of marketing literature explaining the benefits of energy rated windows to homeowners, distributed through Profile 22's Trade Lynks installer support scheme.

Mike Bryant explained: "Research reveals that fitting advanced performance windows, for example a C rated window, will save 852kg of CO2 per year, per property – the equivalent of five double decker buses filled with gas - and over a 35 year period this rises to 29.8 tonnes.

"Fit an A rated window and the carbon saving becomes even higher, even positively adding heat to the property.

"These are great messages to take to the consumer when you're looking for new business leads, not to mention the saving that fitting advanced performance windows will have on their wallets."
